The pursuit of security is the existential foundation of Western society, the indispensable watchword, an obsession, a wish pretending to be achieved following the shortest path, the straight one.
I tried to represent this situation drawing ten potential sea routes linking two cities placed on Adriatic Sea opposite shores.
I made use of curved or broken lines to be opposed to the banality of the straight line, the true geometric symbol of security, actually coinciding with it while navigating at sea. These special routes, born by endless pretexts or possibilities, are totally insecure in the field of navigation: they rather belong to art because they share art freedom and uncertainty.

This goal was partially achieved during the sea voyage from Ancona to Split, undertaken by the artists and the curator of Voyager 2003 on board the yacht Aline.
The trip was intended to establish a working contact with the artists of the Croatian side.
To make clear the nature of her mission, on July 20-2003, the yacht stopped its regular course in a straight line and started navigating part of my route n°8: the impermanence of the anomalous water trace was registered by the onboard GPS and by its satellite detection.
The initiative, promoted and financed by the Region of Marche, Province of Ancona, ARCI Ancona, was designed and set up by Voyagerlab (Massimo Cartaginese / Oskar Barrile).
