Interrupted landscapes  is a public art project by Voyagerlab (Massimo Cartaginese_Silvia Paoletti) intended for the Villanova Popular Committee which has spent years campaigning against the neighboring and polluting oil refineryThe project was subsequently funded by the Administration of the Province of Ancona. Our research has thus enlarged to the morphological, environmental and social transformations occurred to the entire river valley, because of the repeated over time industrialization processes.
Our work was finally showed as a large billboard installation during the festival "L'acqua, la memoria" (The water, the memory), in 2009.

Interrupted landscapes checks people ability of inhabiting and perceiving a territory as an always alive presence. The project aims to restore the network of lost relationships and forgotten stories, renewing habits and actions lost in the margin of everyday life.
Through usage of large billboards with iconic and verbal messages stimulating immediate attention, we want to reintroduce a “landscape of memories" within the contemporary landscape: billboards recall to visitors past stories and a past morphology, perhaps still achievable.
Each billboard has a drawing linked to a popular saying. Proverbs are generally defined as commonplaces, pointing out their anti-scientific, superstitious, ephemeral knowledge; yet,  commonplaces are also common places, that is spaces where people get together recovering their sense of belonging. Our proverbs' words, together with the iconic elements, are intended to reactivate shareable internal landscapes, leading to new interpretations.
